A team of reporters at DIE ZEIT researched the stories of all 340 people who lost their lives climbing Mount Everest. We created an interactive map scroller that explains the different parts of the climb and the struggles along the way.

I helped in the final stretches of this project by replacing the standard mapbox satellite tiles with a custom tileset based on manually color-gradeded Bing satellite imagery. We also replaced the default mapbox elevation tiles with a higher resolution elevation model to increase the details on Mount Everest.

Finally I used Blender (and Blender MCP) to render the teaser image with a nice tilt shift and fog.
